My shopping addiction began with my first part time job; working as a sales assistant at Priceline. I would blow out and literally purchase everything I could possibly want. My wardrobe was constantly changing and over months I had realized that I owned so much clothing that I no longer wanted – since at the time it was no longer ‘trendy’ or my style. As I grew into a young adult, my shopping habits changed…and for the better. Instead of purchasing one off garments, I go for pieces that are simple, easy to match up with, easy to dress up and dress down.
Occasionally I buy a statement garment like a blouse or dress for special occasions, but being a perfectionist I tend to wear these once in a blue moon. I have so much more fun mixing and matching my simple pieces, and I find I'll have way more outfits prepared with even just one simple shirt. I save so much more money too (which is a bonus).
Here I am wearing an 'oversized tee' inspired dress from SES fashion which was a damn good $5.95! Here's a similar one from Missguided. To achieve a more casual look I decided to wear my favourite pair of air max, but you could easily wear strappy sandals, slip on sneakers, wedges or chunky clogs. I wear this outfit for casual occasions like shopping, lunch with friends and family, running errands and whenever I feel like really...
To dress this bad boy up I've got my cardigan from Tempt but I've found one just as cool from ASOS. These types of 'baggy' cardigans make any look trendy and I find it flatters the length of my legs. I've balanced out the white by wearing some matching white ankle strap heels from Winsdor Smith. I personally go for the ankle strap heels as it elongates my legs and are so far the comfiest type of heel I've worn! In terms of accessories, you could wear a statement necklace or earrings, but as you probably know by now I like to keep it simple. I've got my hoop earrings, rings and cuffs from Forever 21, and I'm rockin' the Mary anklet by Lady Ésah. You can add some colour with a lippy or clutch, but here I've kept
the white and grey look consistent with my bag.
Extra tips!
- Always assess the occasion to match the level of 'casualness' or 'dressiness' your outfit will be.
- Statement pieces like necklaces and earrings can dress up any outfit easily.
- The type of material a garment is can balance the outfit; if your shirt is a casual cotton make and you want to dress it up, match it up with a heavier based material such as nylon/polyester. Here is a good example by stylish blogger Sincerely Jules.
Happy styling!
